Our Black Lives Matter Assembly and Peace March is also happening this morning! The Peace March will start at 8:25.

Thanks for the invites to ‘Mallet Madness’ Ms. Hilary! It was fun sitting in on a music class today and learning all about their music curriculum and how it progresses and also getting to play some fun and unique instruments!

Ms. Hilary has been sending invites to all families for their student’s class session. If you can make it, it is a lot of fun and quite informative!

We're partnering once again with Salmon In The Sch

We're partnering once again with Salmon In The Schools! Our eggs were delivered at the start of January, and they've hatched are now little alevins. If you look closely, you can see their yolk sacs still attached to their bellies.

Every week, their water is tested and adjusted to ensure optimal conditions for their health and growth. And in a few short months, our Kindergarten team will be going to Matthews Beach to release them back into the wild.

We are so excited to bring back the @pacsci for the 3rd year in a row; this year for 2 full days of PHYSICS!

Through experiments at an assembly and hands-on exploration in classroom workshops and a pop-up exhibit, our students got to learn about light, sound, energy and more!

Ask your student what their favorite part of their Pac Sci experience was and feel free to share it with us!

Thank you Pac Sci for bringing engaging, thoughtful and exciting science to us again.

Felicitaciones Mr. Carlos!!!

Mr. Carlos was awarded the @seattlepublicschools Beacon of Hope award today! This award celebrates an educator who makes a positive impact on their school. He was nominated by Ms. Cindy Lara, who wrote that he is not just a positive influence on colleagues and families, but is a champion of marginalized communities.

We are so excited to let the world know how much you shine Mr. Carlos. And we're so happy that you bring your passion to OHE.

In addition to our all-school Writing Celebration

In addition to our all-school Writing Celebration today, the 5th graders took time out of their day to visit the Kindergartners and read some beautifully written and illustrated stories they wrote! Thank you 5th graders! The littles really look up to you and love seeing your passion for reading and writing 💜

The writing celebration today was so fun for the students! The 4th and 5th graders lead small groups of younger students and everyone got a chance to share their amazing stories that they’ve been working on in school. Along with amazing stories we also have a lot of amazing illustrators at Olympic Hills!

Thank you so much Ms. Julie for organizing these and guiding our kids to be wonderful and creative writers and amazing student leaders!

Reading Shark and Wally the Writing Walrus also made appearances to celebrate the accomplishments of the students and cheer them on 🎉

The Bureau of Fearless Ideas @fearlessideas were there to engage with, encourage, and listen to our students’ creative works!

Student Lead Writing Celebrations will be this Fri

Student Lead Writing Celebrations will be this Friday, January 17th, in the Ottertorium (cafeteria) and gym. Parents are welcome to attend your child’s celebration and hear all the amazing things they’ve been writing at school! The small groups will be lead by the 4th and 5th graders.

8:15-8:40am - 1st, 3rd, and 5th graders
8:50-9:15am - Kindergarten, 2nd and 4th graders

Community Event: Family Resource Fair! January 28th from 10am-2pm. So many local community resources and organizations in one spot! Don’t miss it, so informative and educational and a great overview of resources available in your local community!!!

Featuring: Family Works, Education Access, SPD Crime Prevention, Lake City Partners, the Tool Library (so cool and such a money saver!), Early Headstart, North Helpline, Manos Unidas, Food Lifeline, King County Public Health, Garden Hotline, Tilth Alliance, Free Assist Mobile, Seattle Public Library, Early Learning, and more!!!

Tonight OHE partnered with Lake City Library to hold an informational session about how reading is taught at OHE.
We learned how our K-3 students use the SIPPS reading program to learn phonics.

It even had a library scavenger hunt, where families learned all about the services offered at @seattlepubliclibrary

THIS FRIDAY IS COZY DAY AND 1 HOUR EARLY RELEASE!

THIS FRIDAY IS COZY DAY AND 1 HOUR EARLY RELEASE! Friday, December 20th is cozy day! Students and educators are invited to come in their coziest clothes and/or bring a small stuffed toy to keep them comfy. School will be released an hour early on Friday as well. Students will be released at 1:25pm.
