Current and Future Jane Addams Middle School Families: Now is the Time to Nominate Next Year’s PTSA Leaders (2017-18)!

The Jane Addams Middle School (JAMS) PTSA invites families to join our board.  Anyone can join the board, and the more diversity the better! Nominate yourself or a friend for one of the following key leadership positions.

There are also openings for other positions including Traffic & Transportation Chair(s), Volunteer Coordinator(s), Assistant Treasurer, Communications, Fundraising and PTSA Membership.

The Nominating Committee is seeking volunteers for all positions for next year’s leadership! Get involved! Coloring Club for K-2

Do you sometimes wish you had “just one more hour” of alone time? How about signing your child up for an after school Coloring Club? Coloring Club is open to all students Kindergarten-2nd Grade.  The first class is March 28th and the last class is June 6th.  There are no after school classes the week of April 10th due to spring break. Coloring Club will meet each Tuesday from 2:30-3:30. After the final bell of the day Coloring Club participants will go to the cafeteria for a snack and then outside for a short recess. At 2:30 they will go to Coloring Club where they will express themselves through art and color. There is no after school bus available for this class – you will need to pick your child up at 3:30. Registration for this class will close on Monday, March 13th at 2:05 p.m.The registration fee is $10 however you are welcome to pay more! You can pick up a registration form in the school office if you no longer have the form sent home with students on February 27th. You will also find a registration form attached. Last chance to order t-shirts this year

You have one last opportunity this year to order a fresh off the runway, totally original, HAUTE COUTURE Olympic Hills t-shirt or sweatshirt. This is going to look AWESOME with the one pair of track pants your kid wears every day because “pants hurt” and will also coordinate beautifully with your daughter’s rainbow leggings, unicorn t-shirt, and cat ear headband capsule wardrobe.
Order forms should come home SOON. If your child insists that he never got it, they will also be available in the front office as well as right here at olympichillspta.org. Please fill out completely with your child’s first AND last name, and Teacher’s Name and room number. The deadline to order school shirts by sending a form with your child will be Monday, March 20 final orders accepted in person at the Science Fair/Potluck on March 23. Delivery will be in mid April.

March PTA meeting tomorrow, March 2

Join other Olympic Hills families at the PTA meeting tomorrow night, 5:30-7pm. Come and learn about how to support your child’s reading at home! Information will be given on the stages of reading (kindergarten through fifth grade). Also the question of “what does my child’s reading level mean?” will be answered. Families will be given tools, tips and tricks to support readers at home. Finally, families will learn how to access ‘just right books’ for their students outside of school. Guest speaker Julie Solarek, Olympic Hills’ Reading specialist.

All families welcome to attend. Family potluck 5:30-6PM and Meeting 6-7pm. Free Childcare provided and Spanish Interpreter available.

Join the principal hiring team

At the December 15 community meeting, Planning Principal Dedy Fauntleroy stated that she will not be the principal when the school opens. If you are interested in enrolling your child at Cedar Park, joining the principal hiring team is a great way to get involved. A training IS required! The next training session is January 19th at JSCEE. If you are interested in joining the hiring team, contact Kim Whitworth, Executive Director for NE Schools at kdwhitworth@seattleschools.org.

In the meantime you can get up to speed with this district summary of the 12/15 “What Kind Of Option School Should We Be” meeting, with a link to the data collected. Most families prefer to open Cedar Park in 2017 with a defined focus.

Hello families! It’s time to register that little one for kindergarten! To make the transition easier on both parents and kids, Olympic Hills is offering tours for prospective families. These are tours of our interim location at Cedar Park. Our new building will be ready for your kindergartner in Fall 2017.
Daytime Tours:

Friday, January 27th from 8:40 to 9:40 a.m.
(All school assembly from 8:10-8:30, visitors are welcome to come watch)

Wednesday, February 8th from 8:10 to 9:10 a.m.

Thursday, February 16th from 8:10-9:10 a.m.

Evening Tour/English Language Learner Info Night:

Tuesday, January 31st from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

We welcome all families!  No sign-up needed.  Please arrive a few
minutes before the start time so you can check in and start learning
about this amazing place, as well as our new building opening this
fall!   You are welcome to bring your child with you as long as you
can supervise him/her.  We look forward to seeing you.
